General Information

Haemosiderinuria is a valuable sign of intravascular haemolysis. Its demonstration in urine is by the Perl’s Prussian Blue staining reaction followed by morphological inspection of the deposit.

An early morning sample is essential to achieve maximum sensitivity. Samples taken at other times will be less concentrated and may thus yield falsely negative results.

Patient Preparation

Early morning urine taken into a plain plastic universal
