General Information
Promethazine is a phenothiazine derivative that has been widely used since 1950 for its antihistaminic, antiemetic and sedative effects.
Adverse reactions to promethazine include drowsiness, extrapyramidal reactions, dizziness, tinnitus, ataxia, blurred vision, termor, anxiety, hysteria, hypotension and tachycardia or bradycardia. Overdosage can cause coma, convulsions, respiratory despression and circulatory failure. Physostigmine has been found to reverse may of these effects.
