General Information
Melphalan (phenylalanine nitrogen mustard, melfalan, L-PAM, L-sarcolysine, Alkeran, Sarcoclorin) is a synthetic alkylating agent that has been used clinically since 1970 as an antineoplastic agent. It is used to treat myeloma, melanoma and ovarian cancer.
The adverse effects resulting from melphalan therapy include nausea, vomiting, diahorrea, bone marrow suppresion, alopecia, haemolytic anaemia and hepatotoxicity.
