Measles IgM

General Information

Measles-specific IgM testing for the diagnosis of acute Measles. All Measles-specific IgM pisitive results still require notification to the Centre for Infection Colindale for surveillance purposes.

Patient Preparation

For taking blood samples we recommend that users follow either their local protocols or “The Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures”.

Red top blood (serum) samples

  • Sufficient blood for the test should be drawn into red topped (no additive) vacuum tubes.

Notes

All IgM positive results are telephoned to the requesting laboratory/sender. Clinical advice will also be available after hours for all contact tracing and potential prophylaxis advice.
