HIV 1/2 antigen/antibody screen

General Information

The Abbott Alinity HIV Ag/Ab Combo assay is intended to be used as an aid in
the diagnosis of HIV-1/HIV-2 infection and as a screening test for donated
blood and plasma. An Abbott Alinity HIV Ag/Ab Combo result does not
distinguish between the detection of HIV p24 antigen, HIV-1 antibody, or
HIV-2 antibody.

Patient Preparation

Testing for HIV should be discussed with the patient prior to taking the

sample. Any request forms must be signed by the requesting health professional.

For taking blood samples we recommend that users follow either their local protocols or “The Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures”.

Red top blood (serum) samples

  • Sufficient blood for the test should be drawn into red topped (no additive) vacuum tubes.

Notes

 Significant results are telephoned.
