General Information

Please note that all queries regarding the diagnosis of CJD should be directed to the Duty Virologist. They will contact the National Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Surveillance Unit, in Edinburgh, where an initial risk assessment will be done.

Notes

If the initial risk assessment deems the patient high risk then the reference laboratory in Edinburgh will arrange transport of the samples. All other samples relating to the patient should be kept quarantined in a Category 3 laboratory until investigations relating to CJD have been made.

 

Special precautions: Attach high risk stickers to high risk samples and request forms and clearly state the nature of the risk
