General Information

Some clinical indications:- one or more clinical episodes of arterial, venous or small vessel thrombosis.

One or more unexplained deaths of morphologically normal fetus at or beyond the 10th week of pregnancy.

 

Notes

Both Anti Cardiolipin and Beta 2 Glycoprotein 1 are useful in the assesment of risk of thrombosis in patients with SLE or related disorders, for monitoring of patients at risk for foetal loss.

Raised anti-cardiolipin and/or B2GP1 abs (IgM/IgG) on 2 occasions at least 12 weeks apart satisfies one of the criteria for a diagnosis of Anti Phospholipid syndrome
 

Reference Range

Consider IgG Anti cardiolipin antibody abnormal only if >23.8 U/mL

                     IgM Anti cardiolipin antibody abnormal only if >29.9 U/mL

(99th centile of normal), present on two or more occasions,
at least 12 weeks apart.

Consider IgG B2GP1 abnormal only if >17.7 U/ml

IgM B2GP1 abnormal only if >5.7 U/mL
(99th centile of normal), present on two or more occasions,
at least 12 weeks apart.
