General Information

The assay was developed and published by the German National Reference Laboratory for Adenoviruses, Hannover Medical School, Germany.   Primer and probe sequences were designed against multiple reference sequences to ensure the detection of all 51 known human adenovirus types.   The test uses a single round real-time PCR targeting a highly conserved 133 bp region of the viral hexon gene. Specific detection and quantification is by real time Taqman hydrolysis probe analysis of the PCR amplicon, using the Applied Biosystems 7500 fast system.

Patient Preparation

For taking blood samples we recommend that users follow either their local protocols or “The Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures”.

Lavender  top blood (EDTA) sample

  • Sufficient blood for the test should be drawn into lavender topped (EDTA) vacuum tubes
