General Information

Cholesterol is a steroid which is synthesized in numerous tissues around the body but particularly in the liver and intestinal wall. Approximately 75% of cholesterol is newly synthesized with a quarter originating from dietry intake. Cholesterol testing, together with HDL, LDL and triglycerides, is used to screening for atherosclerotic risk and in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders involving elevated cholesterol levels as well as lipid and lipoprotein metabolic disorders.

Oestrogens can decrease Cholesterol
