Sample Stability

Samples should be stored at -20 ºC until analysis. Stable for six months at -20 ºC.

Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE)

General Information

Serum ACE may be significantly elevated in patients with untreated active sarcoidosis. Elevated ACE levels have been reported in patients with AIDS, Pneumocystis carinii pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and benign hypertonic prostate.

Patient Preparation

None- preferably off steroids

Notes

Do not use EDTA plasma as EDTA inhibits ACE activity. Haemolysis, lipaemia and jaundice interfere.

Reference Range

Up to 18 years: 29-112 IU/L

Adults:               20-70 IU/L

Serum levels in individuals under 18 years of age are substantially higher and more variable than in adults.
