Change to HbA1C reporting in the presence of a Haemoglobin variant.

Please be advised that the Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull laboratories will no longer be reporting the HbA1C result in the presence of a Haemoglobin variant after Monday 27th March 2023. This will standardise reporting across the UHB network and takes into account the advice from the NICE guidelines (NG28 - 1.6.3).
Please request a fructosamine for monitoring glycamic control for patients who have an abnormal haemoglobin type.

The laboratories at Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital form part of the services provided by University Hospitals Birmingham and are UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accredited to the ISO 15189:2012 standard.
