Mumps IgM

General Information

Mumps-specific IgM test for the diagnosis of acute Mumps. All Mumps-specific IgM positive results are still required to be notified to the Centre for Infoection Colindale, for surveillance purposes.

Patient Preparation

For taking blood samples we recommend that users follow either their local protocols or “The Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures”.

Red top blood (serum) samples

  • Sufficient blood for the test should be drawn into red topped (no additive) vacuum tubes.

Notes

All Mumps IgM positiive sresults are telephoned by medics to the requesting laboratory/sender. Clinical advice will also be available after hours for all contact tracing and potential prophylaxis advice.
